The "family tree" format of this file represents Grace Bicknell's work from the early 1900s. It has many "Branhams" because several Vawters married Branhams.
Plus some family information gathered later on the family of David, son of John, who came to Texas to run the ferry across the Sabine.

Bartholomew's father could have been John, but there is no documentation to support this belief at this time. He could have been born in "the Colonies" instead of England. There is no record of his birth or immigration.
Bartholomew and Winifred had at least 6 children, John, William, David, Margaret, Benjamin and Edward. There was also a Richard and an Augustine that are the right age and were indentured to Bernard Noel.

SEE THE RECORDS OF GEORGENE JURGENSEN FOR MUCH MORE INFOMATION ON BARTHOLOMEW VAWTER AND DESCENDANTS, including land transactions, patents etc. (Grace Vawter Bicknell's book "The Vawter Family in America" is also included in another file on this website. Grace concentrated primarily on two sons of David and Mary (Offill, Offott ?), Jesse and Philemon, however they had at least four other children.

A notation by William Snyder Vawter in his documents points to the earliest land record for Bartholomew.
Taken from early Essex Co., Records:
The parish of Cittenbornd, Essex Co. 16 Dec 1693 sold 150 acres to Bartholomew Vawter.

Bartholomew Vawter and Winifred Hodgson were married on or about October 1690. At that time John Hodgson (her brother) deeded her half of their inheritance to her and Bartholomew. She inherited this land as shown in the will of Thomas Page. John her only sibling had control until her marriage as was the custom of the times. The dates of birth of their 8 known children are approximate. John being oldest was born between 1690 and 1692
