Marvin was VVV president for the years 1988-1990. His great-great-grandfather William Vawter, son of David, was an officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The Continental Army was the professional and prestigious army, different from the militia. After the war, the officers formed the Society of Cincinnati, in which membership is limited to one male descendant of each officer. Marvin has the honor of holding membership as a descendant of William. As far as is known, William was the only V/V/V who was an officer in the Continental Army.
Martha's father was a full blood Choctaw Indian. Her mother was probably 1/2 Choctaw.
"Whats in a Name?"
When my mother's father, my g.father, a full blood Choctaw Indian, was a schoolboy in Okla., one of his teachers asked him his name at the beginning of school. Grandpa told him "Pitisitycubby" (spelled phonetically). The teacher exclaimed that, that was too hard to spell & pronounce, so he said, "Here, take my name! " So, grandpa took the name McCasson as his own, Samuel Henry McCasson.
