The Dallas Herald contains an obituary on the late Col. Darwin M Stapp, of Victoria - probably from the pen of Col. Jno. Henry Brown, an old friend of the deceased. Of Col. Stapp he says:
With his parents and their family he came to southwest Texas from Palmyra, Missouri, forty-five years ago. Darwin M. Stapp was a soldier in 1835 in the battles around the city of San Antonio, and also in 1836 and 1837, and for some years was a gallant defender of the frontier. For six years - 1849 to 1855 - he was a useful and honorable member of the Legislature. Since then he has been Customhouse Officer for Matagorda Bay. He was also a member of the Secession Convention, and signed the ordinance of secession.
