There was a book written by John Beverly Vawter. During the Civil War he served in the Union Army in the KY 4th Mounted Infantry Company C. He was a Sergeant serving under General Edward McCook. In July 1864, he was captured and eventually taken to Andersonville Prison. After the war he wrote a book "Prison Life in Dixie" under the psudonymn of Sergeant Oates. In the roster of the KY 4th Mounted Inf he is listed as John B. Vaughter, Sergeant.
