Alonzo Blair Ash pioneer of Custer county died at Ross Hospital, San Rafael, CA. He came to Nebraska with his parents in 1879 from Marshalltown, Iowa and settled on a homestead twenty miles north of Broken Bow. Mr Ash has been recognized as one of the foremost breeders of purebread swine in Custer county and his prize animals have been leading winners in live stock shows over Nebraska for years past. A few years ago he removed from the farm north of Broken Bow to the present tract just west of the city and where he built a reputation in the swine industry that is outstanding. A few months ago Mr & Mrs Ash made a trip to the Pacific coast to take a well earned vacation. The news of Mr Ash's death came with deep sorrow to the many friends in Custer county who knew him as a hard worker, a man of integrity and a pioneer who helped build Custer county.
Worked for railroad when switching train cars fell and legs were crushed, died hours later.
Left a wife and daughter, Iona. Buried by his brother Alonzo.
Marriage record found in Alliance, NE of George to Mary Nietfeld.
