The City and county of Lenoir, N.C. were named for Thomas' son General William Lenoir, who was the hero of the battle of Kings Mountain during the revolutionary War.
Some sources say Thomas married Mourning in Ireland where he had fled to escape Huguenot persecution in France & they emigrated to Edgecombe Co., NC. This, however has never been confirmed. A key Lenoir ref: "Echoes of Happy Valley" by Thomas Felix Hickerson. FHC says b. NYC.
