ASH FLAT -- Carl Vawter, 81, of Ash Flat died Thursday, July 5, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
Vawter was born on July 11, 1925 in King Mills, the son of James Monroe and Georgianna Miller Vawter.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He worked many years as a farmer.
He was a Christian and a member of the Assembly of God in Highland.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Vawter; son, Rene Vawter of Huntsville, Ala.; brothers, Leon Vawter of Port Hueneme, Calif., and William Vawter of Sullivan, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Jason, Greg and Stacey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Eugene Vawter.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. at the Highland Assembly of God with the Rev. Tim Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Along with his wife Julie, he is survived by five children, Tabitha Vawter and fiancee Kory Christensen, Stephanie Vawter, Tresa Seals, Shawn and Eric Kelly; six grandchildren, Taylor Michelle, Kamryn Jo, Kaleb Marcus, Kaitlynn Ann, Dominic and Kasondra Seals; five brothers, Lindell Vawter of the state of North Carolina, Harold Vawter of Sullivan, Mo., Mike Vawter of Florida, Keith Vawter of Rolla, Mo., and Kenny Vawter of Sullivan; one sister, Debbie Anderson of Sullivan; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held June 11 at the First Baptist Church in Villa Ridge, Mo., with Pastor Roger Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Hill Cemetery at Highland, Ark.

Funeral services were under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan, Mo.
