MCKENZIE: Billy Vawter, 86, died Thursday, November 4, 2010, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services were Saturday, November 6, 1 p.m. at McKenzie Church of Christ with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Vawter was born December 7, 1923 to the late Vilos V. and Carrie DePriest Vawter. He was a retired real estate agent, an elder of McKenzie Church of Christ and a WWII Navy veteran. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jane Vawter Harris; and two brothers, Vilos V. Vawter and Robert Thomas Vawter.
Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn Thomas Vawter of McKenzie; two daughters, Amy Vawter of McKenzie and Barbara Vawter of Ripley; one son, Bobby (Lynn) Vawter of Cordova; three sisters, Julia Vawter Blanks of Maryville, Nancy Vawter Holland of McKenzie, and Caroline Vawter Scarlett of Murfreesboro; four grandchildren, Brian (Lisa) Vawter, Chad Barnhart, Weston Vawter and Clare Vawter; two great-grandchildren, Chelsea Vawter and Ben Vawter and one beloved grandpet, Peeper

My ancestor was Alleganey McGuire, father of Rhoda McGuire Vawter.
The record shows that he served as Private, Orderly and Sergeant under Captain Charles Scott
at Williamsburg, Yorktown and Hampton. At other times under generals Lincoln and Gates.
Also as a spy on the Georgia frontier under Captain Reeves Williams.

Doris Harris
October 21, 1903 - August 30, 1990

Doris Harris, 86, 2122 24th St., Bedford, died Thursday at the Hospitality House in Bedford.
Born in Bedford, she was the daughter of Smith and Frances (Holsclaw) Williams.
She was the retired head head of the hardware department of the S.S. Kresge store in Bedford and was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, R. Smith Harris Sr. of Bedford and George H. Harris Sr. of Williams; two daughters, Mildred Smith of Owensburg and Rosalie Terry of Bedford; one brother Vernon Williams of Indianapolis; 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Harris, 1958, and two sons, Donald A. Harris and Wayne E. Harris; one brother Virgil, and three sisters Corinne Landreth, Lois Evans and Helene Crater.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Stevens officiating. Burial will follow and services under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.
